Krys Malcolm Belc is the author of the memoirs The Natural Mother of the Child (Counterpoint, 2021) and What I Made for Dinner (Catapult, forthcoming 2026). His essays about queer and trans family life have been in Harper’s Bazaar, Granta, The Rumpus, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. Krys is a certified preK-12 special education teacher and has worked with children, teens, and young adults in public school and pediatric hospital settings. He received his BA from Swarthmore College, his MEd in Special Education from Arcadia University, and his MFA in Creative Writing from Northern Michigan University. Since 2020, Krys has been the memoir editor of Split Lip Magazine. Krys has taught creative writing classes on memoir, lyric essay, and flash essay in the community and at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is currently the Edelstein-Keller Writer in Residence at the University of Minnesota and lives in Saint Paul with his partner and their four children.
